Aspyr lays the SMAC-X down on bugs

Aspyr Media release a patch to its expansion pack for Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri, dubbed Sid Meier’s Alien Crossfire. The new build, version 1.2.1, sports compatibility for Windows Play By E-Mail (PBEM) games; improves monitor support; improves timing for high-latency net games; and more too. MacMAME 0.37b11a released

Brad Oliver and company have released a new version of the popular arcade game emulator, MacMAME. Using MacMAME, Mac gamers can play original coin-op arcade game ROMs through sophisticated emulation software — it’s especially good for “classics” from the 80’s. The new build sports fixes to the Carbon version, improves the 68ec020 core, and more — it’s ready for download from the MacMAME Web site.

RockNES the Casbah

In other emulation news, Mac emulator master Richard Bannister has released a new build of RockNES/Mac OS — a Nintendo Entertainment System emulator for the Mac. If you’ve been hankerin’ to play a favorite console game on your Mac, here’s your chance. The new build, 1.702, sports myriad changes to improve compatibility and performance.

Spiderweb weaves Avernum 2 update

Spiderweb Software has released an update to its recently released role playing game Avernum 2. Spiderweb founder Jeff Vogel describes the update, version 1.0.1, as correcting “a small number of irritating (but not devastating) problems.” An updated demo is available for download as well.

Captain Bumper bumped to 0.88

MacRun Software released an updated demo of its Mac-only side-scrolling arcade game, Captain Bumper. It’s a work in progress, and the full game should be available in March. This new rev sports a new Settings option that lets users activate a full-screen mode; there are technical improvements and a new soundtrack, too.

Bullseye targets bugs in SkyFighters 1945 1.0.2 update

Bullseye Software released a new patch to the World War II-era aircraft dogfighting game, SkyFighters 1945. The new version adds some cosmetic improvements and provides some bug fixes, and is recommended for all users. Also, if you have a Windows-using pal you’d like to shoot to pieces (who doesnt?), a preview of the forthcoming Windows version is now available.

I’m ready for my ScreenTest, Mr. De Mille

Are you a big fan of motion pictures? Consider yourself a movie trivia buff maybe? Then check out ScreenTest from CompleatMac Software. It’ll test your trivia skills on a variety of movie-related topics. Best of all, you can stump your friends by scripting your own trivia questions, too.

“Secretly Educational” games get updates

Space-Time Associates announced new versions of their “secretly educational” games Hang3000, Presidents3000 and States3000. The games test your knowledge of various topics in fun ways. The new revisions correct bugs which prevented the programs from running if Internet Config libraries weren’t installed, and fix bugs that could occur when certain dialogs appeared.

Our friends over at Inside Mac Games have posted a new feature from AppleMaster Michael Philips, who will be doing commentary, reviews and other stuff for the site in the coming months. Meantime, those loveable goofballs at Utterer.com have posted the Macworld SF ’01 Hangover Wrapup Interview, a look back at the expo that was from the perspective of a variety of game geeks, including yours truly.

Deal expands Centauri’s national footprint in hospital revenue cycle optimization

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Aug. 19, 2020) – Centauri Health Solutions (“Centauri” or the “Company”), an innovative healthcare technology and services company, announced today that it has acquired all key assets of HCFS, Inc. (“HCFS”), a Texas-based provider of self-pay management solutions. HCFS enables Centauri to further extend its market leadership in hospital revenue cycle optimization services.

Since 1986, HCFS has specialized in revenue cycle solutions for hospitals and health systems, using advanced technology and an emphasis on patient advocacy to increase process efficiencies and maximize revenue for clients.

This deal comes on the heels of the recent acquisition of AppRev, a healthcare revenue cycle analytics company, and the December 2019 acquisition of IHMS, a hospital revenue cycle management services provider. As with those acquisitions, the additional resources of HCFS further extend Centauri’s revenue cycle management footprint and leadership.
