eZedia, a company that specializes in digital media integration technology, is spotlighting its eZediaMX 2.1 software at this week’s National Educational Computing Conference (NECC) in Chicago.

A cross platform software program for digital media integration, eZediaMX allows any computer user to receive, generate, modify, edit, recreate, reformat and represent any and all digital media, according to Art Monk, CEO of eZedia. It can be used for a wide range of projects, from digital wedding albums to 3D worlds to interactive Christmas lists.

Version 2.1 works with Mac OS 8.5 or higher. A Mac OS X version is in the works and should be out later this year, Susan Simmons, eZedia vice president of marketing, told MacCentral.

eZedia fully supports QuickTime, provides movie editing capabilities, offers full control of QuickTime VR, and has a fully integrated animation environment. It can incorporate all the major digital media file formats and lets numerous video clips run simultaneously. eZedia supports sound mixing and fading, automated button and pull-down menu creation, and a drag & drop linking paradigm for visual sequencing. You can also do drag & drop copying of objects between documents. The product offers random number generators, timing controls for objects and interactions, layer and visibility controls for complex projects and branching for interactive media displays.

Last week, eZedia announced a licensing agreement with Videometry to bundle a selection of digital video images with their eZediaMX 2.1 software. What’s more, a small collection of Videometry imagery will be made available on the eZedia web site as a free download.

“eZediaMX is far more than typical presentation software,” Videometry president and CEO Steve Gianfermo said. “It is a new way to integrate digital media to communicate knowledge, information and ideas. It enables users to create multimedia reports, interactive training programs, electronic image archives, voice and audio overlays and complex media sequences that branch and flow based on user input. All of this is easily accomplished within an environment where users can drag and drop media objects and connect them with various control objects to create sophisticated digital media productions.”

Videometry’s royalty-free license model allows for unlimited, single-user usage of broadcast quality imagery with only a one-time purchase. Established in 1998 by 15-year video industry veterans Steve Gianfermo and Sean Frame, Videometry (http://www.videometry.com) owns over 500 hours of broadcast quality video content.

eZediaMX 2.1 requires a Power Mac/233 or later, Mac OS 8.5 or higher, 128MB of RAM, Macintosh Runtime for Java (MRJ) 2.2.4 or later (which is supplied with eZediaMX), and QuickTime 5 or later, with QuickTime for Java option (also part of eZediaMX). The retail price is US$199, but education pricing is available upon request.

The next version of eZediaMX is tentatively slated for September. It’s currently live and in beta testing, Simmons said.
